One of the greatest England Forwards of all time, Michael Owen is stepping its foot into crypto space by launching its cryptocurrency in its own name, joining the likes of other sportspersons like Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.
The Ex-Real Madrid and Liverpool football star announced on Wednesday about his investment in Singapore-based Global Crypto Offering Exchange (GCOX) as he unveiled the “Owen Coin”.
The token will allow the fans to buy merchandise such as personal training videos, make donations to charities and the token can also be used to interact with ex-sportsman via live-streaming.
Global Crypto Offering Exchange (GCOX) calls itself as the “world’s first cryptocurrency exchange” and said the listing of celebrity tokens on its exchange would provide an objective indication of their popularity, similar to the number of followers on social networking websites and be selling personalized merchandise and fan interaction could be done more easily than ever.
Despite the negative sentiments prevailing about the cryptos in the market, many top celebrities and sports stars are looking at the potential of digital currencies and its benefits they can provide it to their fans.
The metric rise of bitcoin to $20,000 brought in the interest in the cryptocurrency from all parts of the world and similar words were echoed by Owen –
“When the price of bitcoin reached a new high last year, I knew it was a clear trajectory to cryptocurrency as a global phenomenon”
Following the footsteps of Michael Owen, Manny Pacquiao, and Floyd Mayweather, the coin bug might soon hit the Hollywood industry as well and it will not be a surprising thing when every superstar would be having a coin after him in the near future
